My name is Chuck Manos, and I have been a Sleep Technologist in the Phoenix Area for 27 years. During those years, I have often tested patients who do not speak English as their first language, or don’t speak English at all. We do have a company that provides interpreters, but, for whatever reason, the patient chooses not to engage them. Or even worse, they bring a family member to translate for them. You rattle off your explanation, their interpreter says 4 words and tells you it’s okay. You know it’s not. It comes time to begin therapy, and your patient looks like a deer in headlights, having no idea what you’re about to do.
It’s for that reason I have developed Somni-Connect, a web-based application that helps bridge the gap between technologists and non-English speaking patients.
